Starting Moves

Starting

The most basic way to start the dance. Start from the starting position: the boy has the girl on his right, you are placed 90 degree from each other. The boy old the right hand of the girl with his left hand, and his right hand is placed on the top of her back. Her left hand is on his shoulder. “Starting” allows the dancer to go from the starting position to the basic position of RnR: on a line, the left hand of the boy hold the right hand of the girl.
Starting Lille

Boy and girl are front. The boy opens pushing his right arm and torso. With a fast movement he then goes to the left arm and push. He comes back to a facing position, raises his left hand forming a 90 degree angle with his left elbow. Finally he spins the girl with his left hand clockwise and step back.
Gate Opening

Starting position. The boy opens his left hand in order to signal to the girl. He slides down and counter-clockwise his left hand, and he should NOT LOSE the contact between his palm and the palm of the girl. He asks first the left hand of the girl with his right hand on his right, and then asks her right hand with his left hand on this left. REM: The boy asks the hand of the girl, his palm facing himself. Go out with a perpendicular exchange under the arm of the boy.

Ending Moves

Final Cross

Start like hesitation, the boy brings the girl on his right and hold both of her hands, the girl places her left feet against the right foot of the boy, she puts her hip again the boy, the boy steps on the left so the girl lie on his right. You should be stable so that releasing the hands of the girl is possible to do the cross. Rem: the girl understand the difference between hesitation and final cross thanks to the way the boy lead with this hands and because final cross… is a final.
Double Cross
Final Laying

The boy asks the left hand of the girl, and then places her on his right. His right arm holds the girl behind her back. His left hand holds her right hand. While keeping his center of balance between his feet, he makes the girl go down the bottom of her back on his right leg.. The girl must keep her center of balance between her left leg and his right leg. She lifts her right leg and bends the knee.
Sweet Laying

Variation of Final lying. Start as a sombrero, when the girl is on the right of the boy; release the hands and the boy place his right hand on the shoulder, and the left hand on her hip. Then go down as in final lying. The left hand of the girl is on the back of the boy. Her right hand is free. She can do what she feels like to do.
Lille Laying
Shoulder Laying
Final Jump

Bring the girl next to the boy thanks to a “go back to starting position”. Now instead of putting the left leg in front of the girl in order to do the starting, the boy place his right leg in front of her. Then he counts with his left hand 3 bits (one, two, three), he put his right hand on her hip and the girl jump on his leg at four. He boy help her to jump by going down and up with her. Her left hand is on his left shoulder before, during and after the jump. She can wave with her right hand.
Final Jump 2
Final Kick

Basic Step

Exchange Girl

You cross each other on your right, the girl turn counter-clockwise.
Remark: Exchanges Boy and Girl start from the basic position (on a line, the left hand of the boy hold the right hand of the girl), and you should always exchange position (the boy stand on the same spot where the girl was standing before the exchange and vice versa).
Exchange Boy

You cross each other on your right, the girl turn counter-clockwise.
Remark: Exchanges Boy and Girl start from the basic position (on a line, the left hand of the boy hold the right hand of the girl), and you should always exchange position (the boy stand on the same spot where the girl was standing before the exchange and vice versa).
Change hand

In order to go from the basic position to the cross position: the right hand hold the right hand, and to come back from the cross position to the basic position. Rem: the boy change hand at the end of the exchange, when his hand goes down, don’t change hand above the head of the girl while she is turning).
Transition

A way to change hands in the back of the boy, works both ways. It is important that the boy walks front and back when appropriated, and to make space for the girl on the right and left when appropriated. REM: don’t forget that it is a exchange based figure, so you need to go away from each other, stop in tension and then the boy call again the girl in the other direction.

Come & Go

Come & Go

Start as a exchange girl, when the girl is turning next to the boy, he places his right hand on the top of her back, stops her, and pushes her back in front of him, making her turn one time again clockwise so that you don’t exchange position.
Come & Go 2

During an exchange girl, the boy stop the girl by putting his hand on her shoulder blade so that he send her back where she come from. Push her away two times and during the 2nd time, turn 180 degrees clockwise, change hand in the back, and bring her in front of the boy. REM1: the boy steps backward as he does in “Transition“ and makes space for her. REM2: put your hands low when you push the girl away.

Boat

Boat

Change hand, ask second hand below the right hands, the girl turns, the guy turns, then together. Then the boy releases the left hand of the girl and does an exchange girl to change hand back in the basic position. Rem: to turn better together the boy makes the girl turn 90degree before turning himself.
Boat end-side

A way to change hand from right-right to the normal left-right at the end of boat.
Boat Shoulder-Hips

Start like a normal boat: the boy turn, the girl turn, the boy and the girl turn together BUT during this turn together the girl turn 360 degree and the boy only 180 so that the boy shows his back to the girl, holding both of her hands. He puts both hands on his shoulders, (1) then move them on his hips (2) then places them behind the back of the girl, release her right hand so that she can put her right hand into his left hand, behind her back (3). Then while the boy turns counter-clockwise 180 degree he makes the girl turns two times: one time with the hand low, one time with the hand up (4).
Boat Caresse

Another way to finish the boat, while marking the bits, put the right hand of the girl above her head, then put her left hand and catch her right hand in the basic position of RnR.
Boat Double Caresse
Jumping Boat
Cat

Eiffel Tower

Eiffel Tower

The boy asks the left hand of the girl with his right hand: the guy presents his hand, palm toward the celling at the end of an exchange so the girl can see it is on time. The boy raises his left hand while lowering his right, gently bending her wrist, making her turn clockwise. You should be almost facing each other. Exit: the boy makes the girl turn clockwise 2 times, the first turn the boy holds both hands, the second turn he releases her right hand.
Walking Eiffel Tower
Eiffel Tower Melimelo

Start a normal Eiffel tower, look at each other, and then go back to back. Don’t forget to change the grip of the hand when you are back to back and u go from on side to the other one; look at each other.
Continuous Eiffel Tower
Twin Towers
Spaghetti

Start inverse of Eiffel Tower, then the boy places his right hand behind his neck and his left hand below the back of the girl, therefore boy and girl are back to back. While exchanging position, still being back to back, the boy exchanges the position of the hands so that his left hand is behind his neck and his right hand behind the back of the girl. Finally the girl is turned conter-clockwise half a turn while the boy turns himself to face her again. At the end of the figure the boy releases the left hand of the girl.

3 Tops

3 Tops

The guy presents his right hand to the girl, palm facing her, as if making a “stop” sign. Do 3 “springs”: Use the “right hand of the girl-left hand of the boy” to pull each other away, and the other side to push each other. Exit: at the 3rd touch push each other harder so that both do one turn, the boy clockwise and the girl counter-clockwise, and catch each other back in the basic position.
3 Tops Kneeling
3 Tops Jump

The guy presents his right hand to the girl, palm facing her, inviting here to do the 3 tops. Do 3 “springs”: Use the “right hand of the girl-left hand of the boy” to pull each other away, and the other side to push each other. After the 3rd touch, you both go down, and use the tension between you to and exchange girl-jumping.
NB: Sign for the girl when performing the 2nd touch, the boy squeezes the hand of the girl several times. Without this sign, she will do the regular 3tops.
3 Tops Slide
3 Tops Titanic
3 Tops Elbow

Sombrero

Sombrero

Both hand crossed in front of each other, RIGHT hands on top. While holding hands, the girl makes 1 and half turn clockwise, the boy turns slightly counter-clowise. The hands pass above the heads. At the end of the turns the right hands are behind the neck of the girl, the left behind the neck of the boy. The boy stop the girl half step behind him (and not next to him!), and he step front with his left foot. The boy release both hands, and with his right hand in harb back push her in front of him where he is presenting his left hand. The girls catches the left hand of the boy with her right hand, so that you are back in the basic position of RnR.

Sombrero End-Side

Do Sombrero but the boy DO NOT place the girl behind him when she is on his right. Do not release the hands. Make the girl turn so that the boy places her on his left. While doing so, the boy turns 45 degree himself. Do not go back to the initial position but the boy is stepping away from the girl, on his right. Both hands are released. The right hands of the girl is sliding on the left arm of the boy and the left hand of the boy is sliding on the right arm of the girl till the hand catch each other in the basic position of RnR.
Sombrero Double

Do Sombrero but the boy DO NOT place the girl behind him when she is on his right. Do not release the hands. Make the girl turn so that the boy places her on his left. While doing so, the boy turns 45 degree himself. Go back to the initial position where the girl is on the right of the boy (right hands are behind the neck of the girl), this time stop the girl behind the boy, the boy step front with this left feet so that the shoulders and feet of the boy and the girl are aligned, and exits like in the basic Sombrero.
Sombrero 3-Tops

To end up sombrero or sombrero double with a little extra. When going out, the boy places as usual the girl behind him, she steps back with her right foot and the boy steps front with this left feet so that the shoulders and feet of the boy and the girl are aligned. The boy releases the hands and pushes the girl in front of him where his left hand is presented. From this position call a 3top directly without doing an exchange. The boy must present his left hand as soon as possible.
Sombrero Fettuccine

Start as a sombrero and go into sombrero double. Instead of moving away from each other, the lead drops his left hand behind the follow’s right arm. Follow grabs with the left hand and continue with fettuccine.

Hesitation

Hesitation

Changing hand, pull the girl on the right of the boy, the girl do on step back with the right foot (1), one step forward with the right foot (2), join with the left foot, and the guy pull her left hand backward in order to make her turn on her left leg (3). She does one turn and a half, the guy catch the hand back (4). Rem: the hands of the boy follow the shoulders of the girl during all the figure, but he does not move from his standing position.
Hesitation 2 Hands

Very close to hesitation. From the basic position, the boy asks the left hand of the girl. The hands are NOT crossed. Place the girl on the right of the boy in a very similar way as for hesitation. Drive the girl to make her do the steps: one back, one front, join with the left feet. The boy releases her left hand and makes her turn one turn and a half. Do not release her right hand.
Hesitation Unroll

Start like falling. When the girl is on the boy’s right side, he gives her a spin clockwise. Then release her right hand and unroll her. From this go immediate in the roll-unroll.
Dizzy Girl

Side-Side

Side-Side

At the end of an exchange girl, ask the left hand of the girl by presenting hand, make sure the girl can see it on time. Join both hand, and the girl and the boy go toward each other right, come back to face each other, join the hand again and go on each other left, then face each other, join the hands, go toward each other right while the boy place both hands behind your both necks, turn around, slide on each other arms till the boy catch the right hand of the girl with his right hand, change hands.
Broken Arm

Start as side-side, however instead of putting both hands behind the necks, the boy places only the right hand behind the neck of the girl and keeps his left hand in front of his neck. Then both the boy and the girl bend their arms so that they are hooked together. The boy turns under them, counter-clockwise, while keeping his right hand in front of him. When, while turning down, he is in front of the girl, he will catch her right hand, keep turning, and while rising make the girl turns.
NB: unlike submarine, you don’t change hand while turning down.

Satienta

Satienta

Starting from the standard position, the boy pulls the girl towards him, without releasing the hand of the girl, passes above his head and places his left hand on his right shoulder. While doing so boy and girl are aligned and start turning clockwise around a point that is place between them.
The boy then releases the right hand of the girl (which stays on the shoulder of the boy) and place his left hand on the lower part of the girl’s back, starting to push her so that both keep turning clockwise around the central point. After a quarter-turn, he pushes harder the girls with his left hand (the one on her back) so that he sends her below his right arm (MAKE SURE the boy raises his right arm above the head of the girl!).  By doing so he sends the girl behind him, and steps front (the boy stopped turning when he started to push the girl harder). He presents his left hand to the girl behind him and finishes the figure as a transition (the boy brings the girl in front of him while making space for her to pass on his left, and stepping backward)
Satienta 2 Hands

Submarine

Submarine

Change hand, exchange girl but the boy just walk straight so that he shows his back to the girl. He goes down and pass under the arms turning counter clockwise. He changes hand in his back when he sees the feet of the girl . Finally he rises while making the girl turn one time.
Submarine 2 Hands

The boy changes hand, does an exchange girl and put her behind his back, as in the beginning of transition, and from this position asks her left hand. The girl goes under their left hands, and the boy turns clockwise under their left hands too while behind the girl. He therefore rises behind the girl, hands uncrossed. Move from side to side doing the 1234 steps, the girl being in front of the boy. Look at each other at each extremities of the move. To go out, the boy rises his left hand when the girl is on this right, and send her under his raised arm. Now that you are double crossed, finish with a sweep.

Turning

Push Arm

Start like and exchange boy, but the boy have to pull first the right arm of the girl to make it straight and orient it a bit downward. And he turns it so that the inside part of the arm is visible. The boy places his finger on the middle of her forearm, with the tip of his fingers and then he can push it toward the exterior (NB: not backward, not upward) to make her turn. NB: He push her on the arm AND goes on the other side in order to exchange position. So the girl turns one turn and a half. The girl does not move her arm while turning to make it easier for the boy to catch her hand back.
Kneeling

After an exchange girl the guy goes down, with his right knee, with his right hand on the left hip of the girl and makes her turn while standing to exchange position. The girl turns one turn and an half, the boy gets her right hand back so that you are back in the standard position.

Marriage

The boy calls the girl so that she takes one step with her left leg forward. He knees in front of the girl (right knee) and changes the hand of the girl in her back. Then while rising in front of her he makes her turn 2 times: one turn with low hands, one turn with high hand. Rem: you perform the figure at mid-distance of each other compare to the standard position. You don’t exchange position in this figure.
Fetucine

Exchange hand, bring the girl on the boy’s left without turning her, and the boy places his left arm above her right arm and asks her righ hand below it. From this position, make the girl turn twice in a row. It is easier to bring the hands as low as possible between the two turns to help and guide the girl to do the turn. Finish with a sweep.

Anemana

Anemana

Exchange girl, then change hand and (1) the hands stop in front of the left shoulder of the girl, then the girl turn clockwise, (2) the hands stop in front of the right shoulder of the girl, (3) the hands are moved in front of the left shoulder of the girl (4) both open the hand to prepare to push each other, both push firmly and turn clockwise and the guy catches the right hand of the girl with his left hand
Hand on Heart

Melimelo

Melimelo

How to start: at the end of a exchange girl, the boy put this right hand in this back, the girl take it with her left hand. From here the hand are always connected till the exit of the figure. The girl goes under the left arm of the boy, she is back to back with him, then goes under his right arm, then the boy goes under his right hand and she goes under the left hand of the guy: we call this sequence the “girl- girl-boy-girl”. Exit: the girl turn clockwise 2 times, the first turn the boy holds both hands, the second turn he releases her right hand.
Melimelo-Unroll
Reverse 2 Tops

Partials

Sweep

Ask the hand of the girl, make sure she see it on time. Do an exchange girl with both hands-so you are double crossed. With both hands, pull each other so that the boy turn counter-clockwise, both hands are released. After his turn, the boy catches the right hand of the girl so that you are back in the standard position. Rem: in this figure you perform 2 exchanges of position
Children Games

The boy presents his hand, palm open, at the level of his shoulder. The palm is facing the girl. Clap your hands in order to have the hands cross to start a boat, while doing so, count the beets with your feet.
Hand Belly

Start as an exchange boy but the boy blocks the right hand of the girl on his belly, holds it with 2 hand briefly before changing his hand. Now he holds the right hand of the girl on his belly with his right hand. The girl is standing behind him. Now he can ask for the left hand of the girl with this left hand and the girl turn counter-clockwise under his left arm, like at the end of gate opening.
Coming Back to Starting

Bring the girl on to the starting position during the dance. To do so he needs to do a “wave” with his left hand; down and then outside toward his left. He can then start again the dance with normal start or gate opening.

Bring the girl on to the starting position during the dance. To do so he needs to do a “wave” with his left hand; down and then outside toward his left. He can then start again the dance with normal start or gate opening.

1234 Based

1234

Change hand. The guy pulls the girl so that he place her on his right side, similar to hesitation, but not as tight and slightly more in front of him. The girl presents her left hand up so that the boy can take it with his left hand, again, as for hesitation. You both then start moving right-left doing the steps, while keeping the hands DOWN. The girl is in front, and you move opposite. While doing that, don’t forget to change the grip of the hands as we do with Eiffel tower melimelo.
Repeat at will. When the boy wants to exit the figure, he raises his left hand when the girl is on his right, then she goes under the arm. Finally end the figure by doing Sweep: do an exchange girl with both hands, then pull each other, so that the boy turn counter-clockwise, both hands are released, catch each other back in the standard position.
Swing Neck

Similar to 1234, but the boy keep the hands up when he places the girl on his right. Then do the step, while keeping the hands up. When the girl is on the right of the boy, he place the his hand on the bottom of her neck and push down and counter-clockwise, making the girl turn under his right arm. She turns with her head down. The boy MUST keeps the contact with the neck of the girl. When the girl rises again, she immediate takes the left hand of the boy, presented in front of her. It is very important that the hand of the boy is already there before the girl rise. Finish by an exchange under the left arm of the boy and a perpendicular exchange.
Swing Elbow

From an exchange girl, the boy releases the hand of the girl while she is turning, and grasps her left elbow. He can then make her do half a turn in front of him while exchanging position, both making the steps of the figure 1234. He releases her left elbow and grasp her right one. And he does the same thing again, several times. As for 1234, the girl is always in front of the boy, but he is driving. When the boy wants to go out, he will wait for the moment then he goes on his left, and slides his hand from the elbow till her hand, allowing her to turn more, until she is perpendicular to him. Finish with a perpendicular exchange.

Others

Around the World

The boy asks the left hand of the girl, then while still looking at the same direction make her go behind him. While going so, the boy step front to make her space. When she comes in front of him again he makes turn her one turn clockwise, using her left hand. Finish by making an exchange girl while asking the right hand of the girl in a special way.
Carousel
Merry-Go-Round
Yo Yo

Exchange boy and the boy keeps the girl close to him while turning faster so that he can catch her on his right side. He sends the girl form right to left and then back from left to right again. The boy does not move. To exit he shows her his left hand when she is on this right and he guides her so that she can take it, and do a turn under his left arm and finally, do a perpendicular exchange.
360

Make the girl do 3 fast turns while the boy and girl are turning around a central point. To be able to make these 3 turns fast enough, he boy keeps his hand above her head. The figure end at the exact same position the boy and girl started so that both did a 360degree rotation. TIP: make the girl turn on the corners of an equilateral triangle, and the boy step on the middle of the opposite side of the triangle.
007

A way to change hand, the boy turn clockwise and the girl counter clockwise. Both exchange position. The boy turns one turn and an half, the girl only does half a turn. Both turn back to back.
Roll-Unroll

From the basic position, the boy pulls the girl towards him and he makes her roll and he almost embraces her with his left arm. He does not move. At this point she is in front of the guy, right arm around her waist, holding the left hand of the boy. The boy then pushes her right hand and makes her un-roll towards his front-right side. He catches the left hand of the girl with his right hand just as she starts unrolling. Repeat the same in a mirror-like fashion. Repeat at will. To exit, the boy presents his left hand raised while the girl is on his right side.
Malestrom
Adventurer

A lot of turning around a central point. Contain a final-cross but the girl goes out of the cross so that the dance goes on. Can be used to finish the dance, in this case finish the figure at the final-cross.
Spring

Change hand, place the girl behind the boy as in submarine. The boy step front with the right leg so that the girl step front as well with her right leg. Then, almost immediately so that the girl does not have time to stop moving, the boy do a strong and short move with his right hand toward the right to make the girl turn. !!! this movement is short and strong, and have to be oriented parallel to the floor AND perpendicular to the couple. The boy releases the girl that do one full turn while keeping her right hand at the same level. The boy turns clockwise (on the spot) so that he can look at the girl and catch her right hand with his left hand.
Emancipation
Ballade in Paris
Falling

The boy hold both hand of the girl and place her on his right. He releases her right hand and unrolls her toward his right while he starts to go down on his left. He is down when the girl is totally unrolled. The girl is now supporting the boy. The boy uses the force of the girl to do an “exchange girl jumping”. At the end of the jump the boy places his right arm behind his back and ask the right hand of the girl with this left hand, palm facing the ceiling; he is placed perpendicular to the girl. The boy and the girl are now going out in the same way at the end of “gate opening”: the girl do a perpendicular exchange to arrives in front of the boy, the boy step backward to make her space.
