4-steps-rock and roll dance (“rock 4 temps” in French) was born in 1956. It is a French dance; however you find clubs or groups of 4 steps rock and roll also in Belgium, England and US.

In France, there are different variations of 4 steps rock and roll, that can only be recognized by experts. They are called by the name of the city where that style has been developed: for example 4-steps-rock-and-roll-Paris-style, Versaille-style, to name a few.

In France, 4 steps rock and roll is now widely developed in universities and engineering schools so that students and young professionals know and dance rock and roll 4 steps style.

The rhythm is beaten thanks to move of the arms. The arms give the beats: one, two, tree, four. It is a couple dance; and the man lead. Unlike other dances like tango, there are no rules regarding the movements of the dancers in the room so that it is possible personalized the style. However you have to respect the rules imposed by the figure themselves and the rhythm (one-two-tree-four). This style of rock and roll can be danced on traditional rocks but also on now-a-day music. However purist like best dancing on traditional rocks from the 50/60.
